Naming of Star system in this format is mandatory for all AGT Travellers.
All members are requested to adhere to these naming conventions to encourage development of the AGT presence in the NMS universe.
These rules do NOT apply if you are in a region claimed by another civilization. Normally you can check the NMS Fandom wiki for a region name, and see if it is already claimed by a civilization. If you can not find the region name then there is a good chance it is unclaimed and you are free to name it. (Note: The exception is the Galactic Hub as they maintain their own separate wiki, so check to make sure you are not in their regions). In the future, we will try to make this easier for you to check with a webapp.
The following guidance for is the GENERAL nomenclature for naming systems:
AGT + user provided name
As a general rule of thumb, simply add AGT as a prefix (before) any star systems you upload to the servers.
This rule is MANDATORY as long as you are naming in space unclaimed by other civilizations.
In general, it is recommended to use the root name from the original procedural generated name (or obvious root of it by example dropping off superfluous suffixes/numbers). The traveller is free however create their own name fas long as they use the AGT prefix. Try to create very unique names as common names will often be found elsewhere in the universe.
Suffixes are not mandatory. The exception for this is when naming in a designated Travellers Foundation region, which have mandatory suffixes. Travellers should not use these suffixes except in regions and galaxies where they are to be used.
There are specific regions set aside in a several galaxies where the suffix for that AGT galaxy foundation operates must be applied. Naming in other regions not identified for a Travellers Foundation does not require use of the suffix.
BTF - Budullangr Travellers Foundation in Budullangr.
CTF - Calypso Travellers Foundation in Calypso.
ETF - Eissentam Travellers Foundation in Eissentam.
HTF - Hyades Travellers Foundation in Hyades.
ITF - Isdoraijung Travellers Foundation in Isdoraijung.
IJTF - reserved for future use in Ickjamatew.
KTF- Kikolgallr Travellers Foundation in Kikolgallr.
OTF - reserved for future use in Odyalutai.
PTF - reserved for future use in Paholiang.
RTF Rycempler Travellers Foundation in Rycempler.
RWTF - reserved for future use in Rewmanawa.
ZTF - Zavainlani Travellers Foundation in Zavainlani.
ZATF - reserved for future use in Zalienkosm.
Other reserved suffices include:
ACP - Used by Animal Cracker Projects.
CAT - Used by the Cosmic Assembly of Travellers in the Kibine Quadrant near Louyen.
CEL - Used by CELAB Galactic Industries.
GMEF - Used by the Gravemind Expeditionary Force.
RME - Used by Riven Minerals and Exploration
SCC - Steering Committee Collaborative - used by AGT SLT for special projects
USN - Used by United Star Navy
AGT Travellers that wish to use their own suffices are encouraged to contact AGT Wiki admin celab99/(SLT member celabgalactic) to discuss the best use of the suffice, and ensure no overlap with other non-AGT civilizations. In the future, we will try to make this easier for you to check with a webapp.
The following guidance is the nomenclature for naming Black Hole systems:
AGT + regionname + BH + suffix
This rule is MANDATORY as long as you are naming in space unclaimed by other civilizations.
If the region name is multi-word, then reducing it to the single unique word is acceptable but also try to keep some uniqueness as the core names are often reused, some examples:
In Futurama region: AGT Futurama BH
In Futurama Quadrant: AGT Futurama Quad BH
In Sea of Futurama: AGT Futurama Sea BH
In the Arm of Futurama: AGT Futurama Arm BH
In Futurama Terminus: AGT Futurama Term BH
In Futurama region of the HTF: AGT Futurama BH HTF
The following guidance is the nomenclature for naming Atlas systems:
AGT + regionname + Atlas + suffix
This rule is MANDATORY as long as you are naming in space unclaimed by other civilizations.
If the region name is multi-word, then reducing it to the single unique word is acceptable but also try to keep some uniqueness as the core names are often reused, some examples:
In Futurama region: AGT Futurama Atlas
In Futurama Quadrant: AGT Futurama Quad Atlas
In Sea of Futurama: AGT Futurama Sea Atlas
In the Arm of Futurama: AGT Futurama Arm Atlas
In Futurama Terminus: AGT Futurama Term Atlas
In Futurama region of the HTF: AGT Futurama Atlas HTF
Giant systems are only indicated as giants on the galaxy map for Gas Giants, thus it is useful to name all Giant systems in a way to make them stand out. The following guidance is the nomenclature for naming Giant planet systems:
AGT + anyname + Giant + suffix
This rule is HIGHLY SUGGESTED as long as you are naming in space unclaimed by other civilizations.
If the region name is multi-word, then reducing it to the single unique word is acceptable but also try to keep some uniqueness as the core names are often reused, some examples:
AGT anyname Giant
AGT anyname Giant HTF (For HTF Systems)
AGT anyname Giant USN (for USN Systems)
Shadow systems are unique in each region. The following guidance is the nomenclature for naming Shadow star systems:
AGT + regionname + SH + suffix
This rule is HIGHLY SUGGESTED as long as you are naming in space unclaimed by other civilizations.
If the region name name is multi-word, then reducing it to the single unique word is acceptable but also try to keep some uniqueness as the core names are often reused, some examples:
AGT regionname SH
AGT regionname SH HTF (For HTF regions)
AGT regionname SH ACP (for ACP regions)
Reverse Shadow systems are unique in each region. The following guidance is the general nomenclature for naming Reverse Shadow star systems:
AGT + regionname + RSH + suffix
This rule is HIGHLY SUGGESTED as long as you are naming in space unclaimed by other civilizations.
If the system name is multi-word, then reducing it to the single unique word is acceptable but also try to keep some uniqueness as the core names are often reused, some examples:
AGT regionname RSH
AGT regionname RSH HTF (For HTF regions)
AGT regionname RSH ACP (for ACP regions)
It is important to avoid specific punctuation characters, even if they appear in the game names, as they will cause problems for documentation. These characters should NOT be used in names of ships, planets, fauna, multi-tools, starships etc. as they will cause problems for documentation on the wiki:
/ \ & : ; < > [ ] ' " ? % # { } *
In general, the AGT dictates no names be used that are overtly or implicitly related to:
racism
profanity
sexism
abuse
politics
calls to violence
System names and players that exhibit such styles can be removed from the AGT, and may be reported to Hello Games in extreme cases.
AGT travellers are free to name their planets as desired. Note, unlike star system names, planet names may not permanently stay applied, as Hello Games has been seen to reset the name to default procedural name if they apply an update which significantly changes the planets biome, weather, resources or fauna.
The same rules on special characters and abusive naming apply for planets.
