AGT Defence Force

Background

The AGT Defence Force (ADF) is the combined domestic police and military force for the Alliance of Galactic Travellers. The ADF was formally established on AGT Stardate 3738.21.07 (July 21, 2022), following recognition by the AGT of challenges it faced in the past from hostile actors.

Prior to its inception, the AGT has relied upon the Galactic Hub Defense Force and The Qitanian Knights of the Good Light. The AGT recognizes the substantial achievements and contributions of both civilizations defence organizations, and seeks to supplement them, not to replace them.

The ADF will act as public servants and protectors of the AGT Yihelli Capital Super Region's naming rights, bases, and population. The ADF is empowered to act in matters outside this region, such as defending other civilizations, especially the Travellers Foundations, from an organized attack or responding to distress calls within United Federation of Travelers space.

Eventually, the ADF plans to also assist the community at large by patrolling the community event sites. It is recognized at present the ADF does not have the resources to commit on this, however it is a long term objective.

Distress Calls & Patrols

The ADF's primary domestic responsibility is patrolling busy systems and responding to any distress calls. In the context of the ADF, distress calls are, essentially, messages from human players saying, "Help, I'm being attacked/harrassed at (coordinates)!"

AGT citizens can issue distress calls on the discord server, on the AGT Defence Force channel. When you are in distress, the first thing the ADF requires you to do is to calm down and head to safety if possible. On the discord, give the system name and region and clarify to the ADF the actions that are taking place in said system. A screenshot with the glyphs of the system will be necessary for immediate response.

ADF Headquarters

The headquarters is located on AGT Shieldspires Reach in the AGT Iron Bastion Citadelus system, near the AGT Embassy capital system in the Yihelli Quadrant.

Rank Structure

For the ADF to function properly, there are ranks set to provide seniority to members that show outstanding leadership and great performance within the ADF. Patrolling regularly, especially high volume event areas, following leadership commands, and staying within the guidelines of the ADF shows you are dedicated and can lead to promotion. Only ADF5 and ADF6 can promote and demote units to an assigned rank. The ranks are as follows:

• (ADF1) Cadet: Unit in training, training will last around one week and will have to be under supervision by an ADF2 or pass the ADF2 Defender Skills test set to get outfitted with the ADF starship and uniform before going on duty.

• (ADF2) Defense Operative: After completing training or passing the ADF2 skills test set, a cadet will become a Defense Operative. Defenders make up the bulk of the force and are able to patrol and answer distress calls unsupervised.

• (ADF3) Veteran Operative: ADF3 units are highly experienced operatives who have demonstrated superior reliability during patrols, consistent protocol discipline, and proven efficiency in medium-threat engagements. They are authorized to supervise ADF1 trainees during field exercises and may recommend operatives for advancement. Veteran Operatives often serve as lead responders or team anchors during multi-unit patrol deployments.

• (ADF4) Vanguard Operative: A senior operational rank reserved for those who exhibit tactical precision, strong leadership potential, and an exemplary service record. Vanguard Operatives coordinate multi-sector patrols, oversee small detachments during high-risk events, and act as tactical specialists when advanced or unknown threats emerge. They are also eligible for special operations assignments.

• (ADF5) Defense Marshal: One of the two ranks empowered to promote or demote ADF personnel. Defense Marshals oversee regional patrol operations, evaluate performance records, supervise advanced training standards, and lead high-threat response groups. They may assume temporary system-wide control in emergencies or large-scale events if the Executive Admiral is unavailable.

• (ADF6) Executive Admiral: The highest rank within the ADF hierarchy. The Executive Admiral holds strategic authority across all ADF operations, guides structural policy, oversees fleet deployments, and determines system-level security doctrines. They work directly with the Defense Force Executive Admiral and have full authority to validate or overturn ADF5 decisions and disciplinary outcomes. The Admiral reports to the SLT.

• (ADF7) SLT: The highest DESIGNATION within the AGT Defense Force, reserved exclusively for members of the Senior Leadership Team. This rank is not a field position but an administrative and strategic authority level that guides the overall direction of the ADF and holds authority above the Executive Admiral (ADF6).

Terms of Engagement

The ADF have 4 possible Enforcement Engagement levels, which are applied depending on the current security climate in the Alliance of Galactic Travellers, as well as the rest of Civilized space. Unless you have reason to believe otherwise, such as direct communication from a higher ranking operative, always assume that the ADF is operating on the ADF Sentinel 1.

ADF Sentinel 4: If a threat to the AGT or its allies is perceived/detected, destroy it immediately unless told otherwise. Only the AGT SLT can escalate to this level.

ADF Sentinel 3: If a threat to the AGT or its allies is perceived/detected, disable it. Destroy only if necessary. Only the AGT SLT can escalate to this level.

ADF Sentinel 2: If a threat is perceived, do not engage unless actual hostilities are witnessed. Attempt communication first; determine intentions / de-escalate. Disable and destroy only if necessary. If this is detected, communicate need to escalate to ADF Sentinel 2 ASAP on the AGT Discord server channel, and identify the coordinates. Specific qualifying trigger criteria for escalation are:

• Firing on another AGT, or allied civilized space player

• Maliciously naming systems in AGT designated space regions See AGT Current Operations).

ADF Sentinel 1: Engage hostile targets only in self-defense or when specifically called by an AGT citizen only.

In hostile engagements, it is required that members of the ADF activate video recording mode to record the events in question for post conflict analysis.

ADF Patrol Ship

The ADF has adopted a fighter, as the official ADF patrol ship, the the ship will be provided only to members of the ADF. Location information for obtaining the patrol ship is strictly limited to senior AGT and ADF members only. The ship will be provided by a senior ranked ADF member to new recruits. 

The patrol ship may be flown while off-duty and used for all regular starship purposes. It must be used while on-duty, as it serves as a uniformed vehicle.

ADF Uniforms

When ADF units are on deployment or at special events, ADF formal uniforms are mandatory.  The helmet style is mandatory for anomaly race.  All other races are free to choose their own head style. Detailed uniform instructions are found on ADF Uniform Assembly.

Joining the ADF

To join the ADF, you must fill out the ADF Application Form.

After filling out the ADF Volunteer Form, the AGT Senior Leadership Team will examine your volunteer application and, if possible, confirm your intentions, identity, and any other relevant information. This is referred to as "the vetting process." The vetting process usually takes a minimum of three weeks, however it all depends on the volume of applications.

The goal of the application process is to select potential ADF operatives who are looking to join the force for the right reasons. It also assesses your current skill and experience in NMS.

There are a few things that you can do to increase your chances of being approved. In general these are all the same as the AGT Participation Guidelines.

• Get involved in the community. The AGT is mostly active on Discord and Facebook platforms, however Reddit and Twitter are also used by some members of the AGT SLT. You will need a discord account to participate in the ADF. We're looking for passionate No Man Sky players.

• Sign up to the census. We are more likely to accept applicants that reside in the AGT capital region. We do check and verify your home location in-game so please ensure to meet this obligation. 

• Ideally you should have at least one base on your ADF save that has direct access to a portal for your quick deployment.

• Gain experience. We are looking for people willing to put in the time and effort. If you're a new player it may be worth waiting until you've been a part of the community for a few months. Whilst we train players, we do want to see a commitment from applicants to learn the basics.

• Check your details. If your accounts can not be found when reviewing the application, we will have no choice but to refuse entry. Please make sure that your details are correct when filling in the application.
